Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (2017-2019)
Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) is the largest and oldest member of te “Health Care for the Homeless” network in the United States, providing highly skilled medical care, including mental health, dental services, and addiction/harm reduction care to unhoused and marginally housed people throughout the greater Boston area. BHCHP staff meet patients where they’re at, whether that’s in their home base on Mass Ave across from BMC (the hospital famously dramatized in St. Elsewhere), in shelters, or on the street, under bridges and in parks.
As the Communications Manager for BHCHP, I served as in-house storyteller and photographer. Publications included the non-profit’s blog, thrice-annual print newsletter and fundraising letters, twice-monthly email newsletter, and many other print and digital communications and specialized campaigns, like the #SafeForMeToo event for the Saturday morning, trans-inclusive women’s clinic or the #StoriesNotStigma campaign for Overdose Awareness Day, which was recognized by Boston’s City Council.
Note: those pictured signed release waivers. Children were photographed with the permission of their parents/guardians. Care teams were consulted to establish the ability to give informed consent.
